چکیده

Background People who have extremely high-arched feet or pes cavus often suffer from substantial foot pain. Custommade foot orthoses have been shown to be an effective treatment option, but their specificity is unclear. It is generally thought that one of the primary functions of custom foot orthoses is redistribution of abnormal plantar pressures. This study sought to identify variables associated with pain relief after custom foot orthoses intervention.

Mechanism of orthotic therapy for the painful cavus foot deformity

BACKGROUND People who have extremely high arched feet or pes cavus often suffer from substantial foot pain. Custom-made foot orthoses (CFO) have been shown to be an effective treatment option, but their specificity is unclear. It is generally thought that one of the primary functions of CFO is redistributing abnormal plantar pressures. This study sought to identify variables associated with pai...

Customized Foot Orthoses Improve the Dynamic Plantar Loading in Painful Pes Cavus Subjects – New Analysis of a Blinded, Randomized Trial

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the benefit of customized foot orthoses (CFO) in improving dynamics of plantar loading quantified using the Regression Factor (RF) Index. RF index represents the similarity of the statistical distribution of the plantar pressure during stance phase with a Gaussian distribution. As the value increases positively so does the similarity between the pressur...

Reliable casting of pes cavus to minimise errors in custom orthosis fabrication

Many different methods exist for obtaining an impression of the foot prior to the fabrication of custom moulded foot orthoses. The purpose of taking an impression is to accurately replicate the plantar surface of the patient’s foot, ie arch height, forefoot to rearfoot alignment and general foot morphology. While foam box, vacuum casting and laser scanning are occasionally used, neutral plaster ...

Current Concepts In Orthotic Therapy For Pes Cavus

Why does this chronically painful condition with such a large prevalence remain somewhat of an unsolved mystery in terms of its etiology and development? Although medical knowledge regarding pes cavus exists, the research and treatment options, as well as any theory or hypothesis as to why humans develop this deformity, are quite limited. Traditionally, we have considered pes cavus a neuromuscu...

Deformity or dysfunction? Osteopathic manipulation of the idiopathic cavus foot: A clinical suggestion.

Observed gait abnormalities are often related to a variety of foot deformities such as the cavus foot, also known as pes cavus, cavovarus, uncompensated varus, and the high arched foot. When gait abnormalities related to cavus foot deformities produce symptoms or contribute to dysfunctional movement of the lower extremity, foot orthotics are commonly used to accommodate the deformity and optimi...
